Msgr. Murphy addresses the need for Catholic
educators to find a distinct way to be spiritual beings in the
particularly messy world that makes up postmodern society. As he
observes, the spiritualities of Ignatius, Francis and Benedict have
served — and continue to serve — the church well, but they do not
specifically address the sometimes unique circumstances of lay people.
Catholic educators, in particular, he argues, need a spirituality all
their own — a special way to live out their faith among the students,
colleagues, supervisors, parents and clergy that they deal with daily.
