ImageTORONTO - Among the 33 principals chosen for this year’s Canada’s Outstanding Principals Award were four Catholics from across Ontario.

Darlene Kennedy, Dina Dalia, Dan Trainor and Tony Ceelen will be honoured at a dinner Feb. 26 during a five-day leadership training program at the University of Toronto.

Kennedy has worked in education for 35 years and for the last five she has been principal of Catholic Central High School in Windsor, which she helped to establish in the 1980s.

Dalia has been involved in education for over 30 years, both as a teacher and administrator. She is currently in her 12th year as principal at St. John’s College in Brantford.

Trainor is in his second year as principal at St. James Catholic Elementary School in St. Catherines. Trainor has taken the lead with the Niagara Catholic District School Board’s “Speak Out” program over the past 10 years and has chaired the Junior Curriculum Council for the last two years.

Ceelen is the principal of St. Andrew’s Catholic School in Oakville. Ceelen has spent the better part of his career, close to 25 years, as a teacher and most recently administrator.

The Canada’s Outstanding Principals program is now in its fourth year. It was developed as a partnership between the Canadian Association of Principals and The Learning Partnership, along with the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Since 2004, more than 90 principals have been inducted into the National Academy of Canada’s Outstanding Principals.
