 TORONTO - The Toronto School of Theology has extended its reach down to London, Ont., by adding the Anglican Huron College of the University of Western Ontario as an affiliate.
Affiliate status for the 145-year-old college will mean that students studying for a master’s level theology degree at Huron will be able to take courses at TST without paying an extra fee. TST students can also count Huron courses toward their own master’s program.
Huron contributes experts in theology and ethics among its six-member faculty of theology, said TST director Alan Hayes. Though Huron does not offer PhD level courses, faculty at Huron will be available to supervise doctoral work at TST, Hayes said.
Founded in 1969, the Toronto School of Theology is the first and largest co-operative of Christian theological colleges in Canada with more than 1,400 students. Its core members include three Catholic colleges (St. Michael’s, Regis and St. Augustine’s Seminary), two Anglican colleges (Trinity and Wycliffe), one Presbyterian (Knox) and one United Church of Canada (Emmanuel). It now has four affiliated colleges. They are Waterloo Lutheran at the University of Waterloo, Conrad Grebel, a Mennonite institution also at Waterloo, the Institute for Christian Studies in Toronto representing the Reformed tradition, and Huron.
