ShareLife looks to weather storm

ImageTORONTO - The 2008 ShareLife campaign is hoping to make up lost ground on the weekend of April 12-13 when the second collection takes place for the archdiocese of Toronto’s charitable appeal.

The annual parish-based campaign suffered a setback when a severe winter storm hit the Greater Toronto Area on the “ShareLife Sunday” weekend of March 8-9. With low attendance at Masses, combined with the start of March break and an earlier start to the campaign, in-parish donations were down $1 million from last year. The deficit, however, is not insurmountable, according to ShareLife’s executive director Arthur Peters.

Since March 9, the campaign has closed the shortfall somewhat but remains over $800,000 behind last year’s results as of April 2.

ShareLife, the annual charitable appeal of the archdiocese of Toronto, supports 34 Catholic agencies and 11 grant recipients, reaching more than 200,000 people in need locally and countless more in impoverished nations around the world.
