ImageTORONTO - An Irish priest who spent more than 20 years in the archdiocese of Toronto has passed away. Msgr. Paul Healy, C.H.H., died in Dublin, Ireland, on April 17. He was in his 82nd year.

Msgr. Healy spent most of his ministry in Toronto as chaplain at Lester B. Pearson Airport.

For years, he was known to thousands as the eloquent homilist at the annual St. Patrick's Day Mass at St. Michael's Cathedral.

Born in Yorkshire, England, in 1926, Msgr. Healy was ordained to the priesthood in Ireland in 1952 for the Congregation of the Passion. He came to Toronto in 1979 and was incardinated into the archdiocese in 1986, serving here until his retirement in 1997. In 2002, he returned to Ireland to reside in Dublin with the Congregation of the Passion.

It was also in 2002 that the papal honour of Chaplain to His Holiness was bestowed on Msgr. Healy.

Msgr. Healy’s funeral was to be held April 24 followed by interment in the Congregation of the Passion Community Cemetery in Dublin.
