Father Paul Poovathingal TORONTO — Lots of priests sing. Not many have composed more than 400 songs and released 15 CDs, or hold a PhD in the classical music tradition of Kerala and Tamilnadu in southern India.
Carmelite Father Paul Poovathingal, “The Singing Priest,” will explain and demonstrate just what Indian classical music can say in the key of Christianity at a lecture and performance at the University of St. Michael’s College in Toronto Sept. 17. Poovanthingal will present “Musical Inculturation in the Indian Christian Churches” at Fr. Madden Hall at 7 p.m.
