OBITUARY: Fr. Harcar a priest 61 years |

BURLINGTON, Ont. - Sixty-seven years as a Franciscan and 61 as a priest filled up the life of Fr. Cecil Albert Harcar of the Conventual Franciscans.
Harcar died peacefully at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in Burlington on Feb. 23. He was 88 years old.
Harcar professed vows with the Immaculate Conception Province of the Order of Friars Minor Aug. 25, 1940, and was ordained to the priesthood June 15, 1946.
Among his pastoral assignments over the years were St. Raphael’s parish in Burlington, Ont., St. Augustine of Canterbury parish in St. Bruno, Que., St. Joseph parish in Endicott, N.Y., St. Francis of Assisi parish in St. Lambert, Que., St. Bonaventure parish in Toronto, and Trenton Catholic High School in Trenton, New Jersey.
Harcar is predeceased by his parents George and Mary (nee Gress), brothers Michael Harcar, Fr. George Harcar of the Redemptorists, Fr. Anthony Harcar, Charles Harcar, sisters Mary Harcar and Anne Olsen. He leaves behind siblings John F. Harcar, Sr. Mary Martha Harcar, Cecilia Dougherty, Agnes Harcar and Katherine Folse.
