ImageTORONTO - You can count on the sisters, especially if you’re studying theology with the Jesuits in Toronto.

In June, two communities of sisters donated cash to assist theology students studying at Regis College, the Jesuit graduate faculty of theology at the University of Toronto.

The Loretto Sisters, more formally known as the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, pledged $5,000 per year over the next five years to support female students working toward their PhDs in theology at Regis.

Chipping in on behalf of international students, the School Sisters of Notre Dame have pledged $5,000 a year for five years to support Regis College doctoral students from outside Canada.

Both the Loretto Sisters, founded in 1609 by Mary Ward, and the School Sisters of Notre Dame, founded in 1833 by Blessed Theresa Gerhardinger, are most famous for their history of educating young women.
