Irish Bishop Edward Daly, Bloody Sunday priest, dies at 82

Irish Bishop Edward Daly, depicted on the far right of a mural commemorating the events of Bloody Sunday, became prominent in a photograph of him holding out a bloody handkerchief when British soldiers opened fired on a civilian protest march in Derry, Northern Ireland, January 30, 1972.

DUBLIN – Bishop Edward Daly of Derry, known for his tireless advocacy for peace and reconciliation during decades of sectarian tension in Northern Ireland, died in a hospital in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, Aug. 8.
