Priest laments destruction of Iraq's oldest Christian monastery

This 2009 photo shows the remains of St. Elijah Monastery in Mosul, Iraq. Islamic State militants claimed responsibility for the recent destruction of Iraq’s oldest Christian monastery after a preservation effort was mounted to save the 1,400- year-old site.

AMMAN, Jordan - Catholic clergy lamented the destruction of Iraq's oldest Christian monastery, St. Elijah, and urged the international community to do more to stop such assaults.
