Dutch Church’s relief over election results tempered by Catholic support for populist

While the Dutch Church is relieved by the country's March 15th election results, it is concerned by support of populist Geert Wilders among Catholics.

OXFORD, England – The editor of the highest-circulation Dutch Catholic weekly said a "general sense of relief" in the church after March 15 elections was tempered by knowledge that many Catholics had supported the losing candidate.

Dutch church leaders speak out against "exploitation of Christianity" by populist politicians

Church leaders in the Netherlands have signed a petition against what they call an "exploitation of Christianity" by populist politicians, such as the nationalist Party for Freedom leader Geert Wilders.

AMSTERDAM – Dutch church leaders have signed a petition against the "exploitation of Christianity" by populist politicians in upcoming parliamentary elections, as the Catholic bishops' conference urged voters to back parties "contributing to the common good."
