Mexican president again asks Pope for apology for 1521 conquest

Pope Francis meets with Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, wife of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, during a private audience at the Vatican Oct. 10, 2020. The president's wife delivered a letter from the president asking Pope Francis to apologize for the church's role in the Spanish colonization of the Americas.

MEXICO CITY - Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has asked Pope Francis to apologize for the church's role in the conquest of the Americas. It's the second time he has made such a request of the Pope in less than two years.
