Cameroon bishops take legal action over prelate's suspicious death

Bishop Jean-Marie Benoit Bala of Bafia, who disappeared overnight on May 31, was later found dead in a river June 2.

YAOUNDE, Cameroon – The bishops' conference of Cameroon launched a private lawsuit over the alleged murder of Bishop Jean-Marie Benoit Bala of Bafia, whose body was found floating in a river in June.

Church officials say Cameroonian bishop death was murder, not suicide

Bishop Jean-Marie Benoit Bala of Bafia, who disappeared overnight on May 31, was later found dead in a river June 2. Cameroonian Catholic leaders said June 13 that Bishop Bala did not commit suicide, but was murdered.

YAOUNDE, Cameroon – Catholic bishops in Cameroon said a bishop whose body was pulled from a river in early June did not commit suicide, but was murdered.
