Archbishops give Development and Peace a ‘solidarity’ push

Archbishop Terrence Prendergast has offered a vote of confidence in Development and Peace with his plea for donations.

Development and Peace is assuring donors a review of the practices of 52 partner agencies will end soon while two archbishops are going the extra mile to support the Catholic development agency.

A noble experiment that changed lives

In the late 1970s and ’80s, ShareLife canvassers went door-to-door in neighbourhoods throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto soliciting funds from Catholics for the annual campaign. ShareLife also used to hold an annual family walk-a-thon to raise funds. The first walk was held in 1996.

It wasn’t anger. It wasn’t fear. It was truth that made Archbishop Philip Pocock stand up and say no.

The morning of March 20, 1976 Toronto discovered the Catholic Church wasn’t buying the city’s new notion of progress.

ShareLife comes in over the top in 2015 campaign

This year’s ShareLife campaign raised close to $14 million. Money raised by ShareLife supports 34 different social service agencies across the archdiocese of Toronto catchment area.

TORONTO - Catholics of the Archdiocese of Toronto pulled together at the last hour to push the ShareLife annual appeal above and beyond its goal.

Montreal archdiocese restores the Catholic in new welfare agency

In response to Collective Community Services removing the “Catholic” from their name, the Montreal archdiocese created another welfare agency called Catholic Action. Bishop Thomas Dowd maintains that the two agencies will not be in competition with each other as one is faith based and the other is secular.

MONTREAL - In response to a controversial decision to drop the word “Catholic” from the name of a prominent Montreal social agency, the archdiocese has announced the launch of a new welfare agency called Catholic Action.
