ImageTORONTO - The people in the pews of both churches and synagogues are being invited to dig into the really meaty issues of Christian-Jewish dialogue at a series of six events in churches and synagogues around Toronto.

Christian-Jewish Dialogue of Toronto is bringing Walking God’s Paths: Christians and Jews in Candid Conversation, a program originally presented by the U.S. National Council of Synagogues and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, to Canada.

The six sessions will review the history of dialogue, theological issues, biblical study and the future of dialogue.

The series kicks off Feb. 20, 7:30 p.m. at Beth Tikvah Synagogue, 3080 Bayview Ave., with a session aimed at getting everybody up to date on the past and present of the dialogue. It goes under the title of “A New Future: Building Shalom Between Catholics and Jews,” moderated by Rabbi Wayne Allen and Rev. Allan Baker of the United Church of Canada.

On Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Newtonbrook United Church, 53 Cummer Ave., Allen and Baker continue with “Shared Origins, Diverse Roads.”

“Common Texts, Different Scriptures” will be moderated by Rabbi Roy Tannenbaum and Rev. Canon Douglas Graydon of the Anglican Church of Canada at Beth Tzedec Synagogue, 1700 Bathurst St., March 4, 7:30 p.m.

The series continues March 12, 7:30 p.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Anglican Church, 201 Caribou Rd., with Graydon and Tannenbaum taking on “Season of Freedom, Season of Rebirth” on the relationship between Passover and Easter.

Passionist Father Paul Cusak teams up with Rabbi David Seed at Adath Israel Synagogue, 37 Southbourne Ave., 7:30 p.m. March 26 for “Metaphors for a Unique Relationship.”

The final session runs April 2, 7:30 p.m. at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin, 670 Sheppard Ave. E., with Seed and Cusak leading the discussion on “Mending Relationships, Mending the World.”
