TORONTO - The Basilian order of priests has lost two of its members in recent days: Fr. David Esmonde Belyea passed away Feb. 22, and he was predeceased by Fr. Leo Campbell on Feb. 14.

Fr. Belyea was 81 at the time of his passing. Ordained in 1956, he taught in Rochester, N.Y., and at St. Michael’s College School in Toronto. From 1987-96 he was associate pastor at Holy Rosary parish and was also involved in ministry at the Newman Centre on the University of Toronto campus.

Fr. Belyea returned to St. Michael’s College in 1996, where he lived in retirement before moving to Anglin House in 2006.

Fr. Belyea’s funeral was held Feb. 26 at the Cardinal Flahiff Basilian Centre Chapel. He was interred at the Basilian plot at Holy Cross Cemetery in Thornhill.

Fr. Campbell, who was in his 68th year, was ordained a priest in 1974. Most recently he had served as associate pastor at Holy Rosary, where his funeral was held Feb. 19. He is also interred at the Basilian plot at Holy Cross Cemetery.
