ImageOTTAWA - They haven’t retired his jersey but Carleton University’s Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs is raising Christian peace activist Ernie Regehr up into its pantheon of public policy stars.

Regehr, founder and former executive director of Project Ploughshares, will receive the 2008 Arthur Kroeger College Award for Ethics in Public Affairs at a Carleton University ceremony April 3. Past recipients include Gen. Romeo Dallaire, Gerald Vandezande and Stephen Lewis.

Though no longer the man in charge, after 30 years on the job Regehr is still a driving force as a researcher and policy advisor at Project Ploughshares. The Waterloo, Ont., think tank works on peace and disarmament issues on behalf of the Canadian Council of Churches.
