SYDNEY, Australia - The Toronto delegation finally landed in Sydney yesterday -- two hours past  our expected arrival time. We had decided to leave early because our group heard that the Melbourne Airport was busy with the many pilgrims scrambling to get to Sydney.

Upon arrival, our group made its way to the Big Hostel, where we are currently staying. One pilgrim in our group did not receive her luggage at the airport. Fortunately, airport officials told us that her luggage was found back in Melbourne. We count ourselves fortunate because we are within walking distance of most major events.

This morning, the Canadian contingent made its way through downtown Sydney to Darling Harbour to go on a harbour cruise. We were able to take in the spectacular harbour bridge and world-renowned Sydney Opera House.

Afterwards, we walked to Barangaroo, the site for the Opening Mass with Cardinal George Pell, archbishop of Sydney. Approximately 200,000 pilgrims from all corners of the globe took part.

Tomorrow, pilgrims will have the opportunity to attend catechetical sessions all throughout downtown Sydney.
