Here are the Bible Book(s)/Chapter(s) to read each day this week. Note that the readings are based on the New American Bible.

Day 338 – Sunday, May 25

Hebrews Chapters 10-11

Read Hebrews 11:1 and 11:8-12 again. Abraham set out in a new direction despite the uncertainty of where his journey would lead him. Abraham obeyed the Lord because he had faith in Him.

Read Luke 1:45 and ask God to help us remember Mary’s and Abraham’s responses to God’s call on their lives, when we are called to serve Him in some way.

Have you ever thought that God has asked you to do something you thought was impossible for someone with your personality, social status, education or some other personal characteristic? How did you respond?

Day 339 – Monday, May 26

Hebrews Chapters 12-13

Read Hebrews 12:28-29 again, and then read Luke 24:30-32 and Exodus 3:1-6. In these verses what do you notice about the power of the Lord’s presence?

Ask God to give us more awareness of God’s power and presence in our lives.

In your life which events have caused your spiritual heart to seem to burn with concern and compassion?

Day 340 – Tuesday, May 27

James Chapters 1-3

Read James 1:5-8 again and then read Matthew 7:24-27. These verses imply that lack of faith leads to less stability in our lives.

Ask God to strengthen our faith and resolve to act according to His guidance.

In your life have you ever felt like you were like a wave, changing direction (jobs, relationships, homes) as easily as the wind changes? How strong was your faith during those times?

Day 341 – Wednesday, May 28

James Chapters 4-5 and 1 Peter Chapter 1

Read James 4:1-7 again and then read Matthew 7:7-8. These verses encourage us to ask God to give us good things. James explains that we need to ask for the right good things.

Ask God to help us ask Him for things that will benefit others and not for things that will only benefit ourselves.

What are you asking God for?

Day 342 – Thursday, May 29

1 Peter Chapters 2-4

Read 1 Peter 2:9 again.

This verse encourages us to give praise for God’s acts.

Ask God to help us to be faithful in sharing praises of God’s good works so that seeds of faith may be sown, even in rocky ground.

When you pray, do you spend time praising God for blessings you have received? Is there someone you can encourage today by sharing a story about how God has blessed you?

Day 343 – Friday, May 30

1 Peter Chapter 5 and 2 Peter Chapters 1-2

Read 2 Peter 1:3 again.

This verse reminds us that God has called each of us.

Ask God to help us to rejoice in the life, and in the call, that God has given us.

After reading as much of the Bible as we now have, what does it mean to you that God, who created all that there is and has been powerfully involved in the lives of all our spiritual ancestors, is calling you too? Is there any difference in the way you think of your faith community since you started reading through the Bible?

Day 344 – Saturday, May 31

2 Peter Chapter 3 and 1 John Chapters 1-2

Read 1 John 1:1-4 again.

These verses talk about fellowship.

How easy would it be for people who don’t know anything about Christianity to feel welcome and supported if they were to show up at your parish one day?

Ask God what we can do in our lives, and in our parishes, to make the mystery of Christ less mysterious.

Take a moment to imagine yourself as someone who has never attended a Mass arriving at your parish door some Sunday. Would anyone be there to greet you? Would anyone be there to explain what to say, how to move and, in general, what is going on?

A version of this story appeared in the May 25, 2025, issue of The Catholic Register with the headline "Rejoice in the life, call God gives us".
