Caring reality
Gerard Walsh of Saugeen Shores, Ont., states in a Nov. 27 letter to the editor of The Catholic Register there is a need to adjust for reality regarding falling church attendance. He claims there has been no adjustment at the parish level.
I spent many weekends this summer in Southampton, which is part of the Saugeen Shores area. The new priest, who serves at St. Patrick’s in Southampton and St. Joseph’s in Port Elgin is a breath of fresh air. Heactually cares about the opinion of the parishioners.
Gerard Walsh would be pleasantly surprised if he attended at either parish church.

Comfort and joy
Advent is the period of preparation for the coming of our Saviour at Christmas.
The four Advent candles represent what this will mean to the world and is personified in the adoration of the Magi. They are ambassadors from distant lands who come in peace. Hope sustains them on an arduous journey, and their gifts are offerings of love. It all comes together in a rapturous encounter with God, for when the star hovered over the manger, “they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.”
They had found the King they came to worship, which marks the start of our own faith journey in peace, hope and love that coalesces in joy. Gaudete!

Eliminate need
The Catholic Register’s recent article “Give ‘em shelter” attempts to resolve the consequences rather than to resolve the causes and reasons for giving shelter.
Give them shelter means to be blind, deaf and mute to the circumstances, and to fruitless attempts made in the past.
I support processes that eliminate all causes and reasons for the need to “give them shelter.”
