Greater good

When I read Quinton Amundson’s April 28 article “St. John’s closures ‘canonically unsound,’ ” I couldn’t help thinking that it reveals another instance of the Church trying to evade its responsibilities to victims of sexual abuse.

If I were Archbishop Peter Hundt, I would be handing in my resignation and saying to the Pope: “It’s your problem now. I have tried my best for the victims, but the Church keeps saying the parishioners must have ‘their’ church.” No one likes to see parishes close whether it is in Windsor or Newfoundland.  However, most parishioners have the grace to understand the greater good rather than take a “me” attitude and hold onto a building above all else.
