Italy Pilgrimage 2018

The Catholic Register is turning 125 next year and we want you to celebrate with us in Italy.

To mark our special anniversary, The Register will lead a pilgrimage to Rome, Assisi, Florence and Orvieto. You are invited to join us.

The theme of the pilgrimage will be an exploration of the spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi and Pope Francis, who, of course, took his papal name in honour of the saint.

A highlight of our trip will be an opportunity to attend Mass on Pentecost Sunday at St. Peter’s Basilica, at which Pope Francis is expected to preside.

We will depart from Toronto on May 18 and return on May 28.

We are blessed to have Msgr. Owen Keenan as the spiritual leader of our group. Msgr. Keenan lived for several years in Rome and served in the Vatican at the Secretariat of State under Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis. He is a Chaplain to His Holiness. Currently the pastor at Merciful Redeemer Parish in Mississauga, Msgr. Keenan brings a wealth of knowledge about the Vatican.

Our program facilitator is Kitty McGilly, whose Faith Journeys tour company has been leading pilgrimages for 25 years. She is a Lady of the Holy Sepulchre, an honour bestowed on her by the Vatican in recognition of her many years of work on behalf of the Church.

Our tour operator is Gideon Travel and Tours, a good friend of The Register and an advertiser in our paper for more than 50 years.

In addition to Mass on Pentecost Sunday, we will have a second opportunity to be in the presence of Pope Francis during his weekly general audience at St. Peter’s Square. We will stay in a hotel near the Vatican museum that is a short walk from St. Peter’s Square.

You can find complete details and how to register for the pilgrimage in our pilgrimage brochure.
