Pope applauds beatification of Argentine martyrs

VATICAN CITY - Pope Francis applauded the beatification of four Argentine martyrs -- a bishop, two priests and a layman -- who were murdered early in the country's seven-year long "Dirty War."

Vatican, church set to open archives related to Argentina's 'dirty war'

A collections of photos from families whose children and grandchildren had disappeared during Argentina's “dirty war” by the Association of Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo. Pope Francis has authorized the opening of archives related to atrocities committed by the country’s military dictatorship during the 1970s and 1980s.

VATICAN CITY – Following the authorization and recommendations of Pope Francis, documents housed in the Vatican and Argentine church's archives pertaining to Argentina's "dirty war" will be made available for review, said a joint press statement.
