‘Rapping priest’ Fr. Stan Fortuna featured in Hamilton area

Fr. Stan Fortuna, better known as “the rapping priest,” is being featured in several events in the Hamilton, Ont., area May 5-6.

The accomplished jazz musician from New York, who has released more than a dozen CDs over his career, will be appearing at the Father’s House, north of Carlisle, Ont., at 7 p.m.

Admission is free for the event hosted by Heart Two Heart Ministries, but there will be an offering taken up for Fortuna’s work with the poor.

Ordained in 1990, Fortuna is one of the eight original members of the Community of Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, an order established in New York. In addition to his concerts, which have taken him around the world, Fortuna has published several books and was the subject of a documentary, Sent.

On Saturday, May 6, Fortuna will give a mini-concert at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Burford, Ont., at 7 p.m., as well as preach at the weekend masses.
