Here are the Bible Book(s)/Chapter(s) to read each day this week. Note that the readings are based on the New American Bible.
Day 345 – Sunday, June 1
1 John Chapters 3-5
Read 1 John 3:2 again.
This verse tells us that we don’t know what we will be in the future.
Ask God to help us to hear what He is saying to us in the present so that we’ll be less worried about the future.
Are any worries about your future blinding you to what you need to do in the present?
Day 346 – Monday, June 2
All of 2 John, 3 John and Jude
Read 2 John verse 12 again.
John expressed the importance of face-to-face communication.
Ask God to help us put down our smartphones and meet in person with others more often.
What is your screen time versus face-to-face time ratio?
Day 347 – Tuesday, June 3
Revelation Chapters 1-4
Read Revelation 3:20 again. In John’s vision of Christ, Jesus knocks on a door and waits to be invited inside.
Ask God to help us to become aware of the “doors” in people’s lives and to give us the love and skills to be invited in.
Imagine that Jesus is at your door, knocking gently. Go to the door and open it. How does Jesus speak to you and what does He say?
Day 348 – Wednesday, June 4
Revelation Chapters 5-10
The Book of Revelation is very symbolic and difficult to understand. As with other books of Scripture, interpretations of its meaning can vary.
Ask God to help us to learn more about the Bible and to be loving in our disagreements about its interpretation.
Is this a time in your life when you can pursue academic study of the Bible?
Day 349 – Thursday, June 5
Revelation Chapters 11-16
Read Revelation 15:2-4 again. Imagine the sound of the harps and the voices singing the songs.
Ask God to inspire us to use our creativity to enhance our devotional lives.
Have you ever tried speaking aloud or singing verses of the Bible as part of your own devotional life? Try singing the song in Revelation 15:3-4 with any tune that comes to mind. What differences do you notice between reading silently, speaking aloud and singing verses of Scripture?
Day 350 – Friday, June 6
Revelation Chapters 17-19
Read Revelation 19:6-7 again.
These verses talk about a bride who has made herself ready for marriage. Marriage is one vocation, but we are all called to some vocation.
It takes a great deal of time and effort to read through the entire Bible, as it takes a great deal of time and effort to be fully prepared to answer whatever call that God has made on our lives.
Ask God to help us to carry forward any insights that we have discovered in our journey through the Bible as we seek to answer the call that God has on our lives.
What are the insights that stand out to you the most from reading the Bible?
Day 351 – Saturday, June 7
Revelation Chapters 20-22
Read Revelation 22:1-2 again, and then read Genesis 2:8-9 and Psalm 1:1-3.
These verses show us that the image of a tree appears at the beginning, middle and end of the Bible. As Hebrews 13:8 tells us, Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. His presence has been constantly with us as we have journeyed through the Bible.
Although Jesus has stayed the same, we have changed.
Ask God to show us how this journey through the Bible has changed us and how we should now give water to our spiritual trees of life.
You have reached the end of one spiritual exercise. What is the next step for you to take to nourish your spirit?
A version of this story appeared in the June 01, 2025, issue of The Catholic Register with the headline "Jesus is the same, it is us who change".
