{mosimage}TORONTO - Fr. Thomas Lynch, a well-known pro-life advocate in Canada, has been appointed national director for Priests for Life Canada, the organization announced May 8.

Lynch, who will continue as pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Douro, Ont., in Peterborough diocese, has already taken over his new duties. He filled the vacancies on the 12-person board by nominating Fr. John Lemire of the diocese of Timmins, Ont., as chairman, and Fr. Bernard Vollozo of Toronto as secretary. Also joining the board is Fr. Kevin Belgrave of Toronto and John Nemanic, who will be ordained in June for the diocese of Calgary.

Priests for Life Canada is an offshoot of an American organization that brings priests and laity together to advance the sanctity of life. It has been active in Canada since 1995. Until his death in February, Fr. James Whalen was national director.

Lynch was born in Lindsay, Ont., and was ordained in 1984 as a priest for the diocese of Peterborough.
