Jesus is the reason for the season

{mosimage}TORONTO - Don’t forget what Christmas is really about: the birth of Jesus.

That’s the message a Polish Catholic group in Mississauga hopes will resonate during the holidays.
The metallic sign features Jesus, Mary and Jesus with the words, “Jesus is the reason for the season.”

The signs were created to “confront the propaganda that is provided by the mass media in North America,” said Jacek Kupinksi, a member of the Polish group called “Patron.”

“It’s to remind people what (Christmas) is about,” he said, adding that it’s a reality that’s being lost to the mainstream media.

The sign campaign began two years ago. The group is suggesting a $1 donation for purchasing a sign.

The five-centimetre metal signs are made by a small company and can be worn as pins.

Last year, the Christmas signs yielded $2,000 in donations which were, in turn, donated to an orphanage in Poland. It is being distributed in Toronto, Oakville and Burlington parishes.

Kupinski said the group hopes to be able to send another donation to help the orphanage.

The 20- to 30-member group meets bi-weekly and discusses Polish history and theology.
