TORONTO - Caritas is hosting its 13th annual telethon on April 29. The telethon will be aired on the TLN Telelatino Television Network.
Caritas is raising the money to help people with addiction problems.

The goal this year is to raise $250,000 and Caritas has high hopes for the telethon. Last year the Toronto-based organization raised $182,061, which was just short of its goal.

“Television is a medium where we can get a message across,” said Elio Sergnese, executive director of Caritas. “We are educating a community.”

Caritas assists people in making necessary lifestyle changes so that they can function properly in the community.

“The goal is to become a better person, to become a contributing member in society and they are doing it, they are succeeding,” said Sergnese.

Caritas was started in 1980 by Fr. Gianni Carparelli. It offers a ranges of programs, including a 25-month residential program that focuses on spirituality and social skills.
