TORONTO - Archbishop Thomas Collins, Toronto's new shepherd, will be hosting numerous Masses and related events throughout the archdiocese upon his arrival in Toronto beginning Jan. 28 and running through Feb. 20.

Collins, the former archbishop of Edmonton, will hold his official installation Mass at St. Michael's Cathedral on Jan. 30. More than 60 bishops from across Canada are expected to attend the Mass, which is by invitation only due to limited space. Also expected to attend are various guests from different faiths.

Collins will celebrate five regional Masses. The final Mass will be held in Pickering on Feb. 20.

"I think he will be a bishop that is accessible to people... he was very involved with World Youth Day when it came to Canada. He is someone who is very down to earth and approachable," said Neil MacCarthy, director of the Office of Public Relations and Communications at the archdiocese of Toronto.

Aside from the eucharistic celebrations across the archdiocese, Collins will celebrate vespers and Lectio Divina. All are welcome with a special invitation extended to youth.

The Mass at the cathedral will be broadcast on Vision TV from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and will be accompanied by additional coverage from Salt + Light Television. Visit www.saltandlighttv.org for more information.
