Man who survived Holocaust as child prepares WYD participants for Auschwitz

Leon Celemencki, 76, who is Jewish and survived the Holocaust as a child, talks with World Youth Day participants June 4 from the Diocese of St. Jean-Longueuil, Quebec, about how he lost his family during World War II. He asked them to reject anti-Semitism and to tell people about what they will see when they visit the Auschwitz concentration camp as part of their trip to Krakow, Poland.

MONTREAL – Leon Celemencki looked at the group of young adults heading to the World Youth Day celebration in Krakow, Poland, in July, asking about their planned side trip to the notorious Nazi concentration camp known as Auschwitz.

World Youth Day pilgrims reminded the cross brings happiness at farewell Mass

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. – Always remember why you are there, Hamilton auxiliary Bishop-emeritus Matthew Ustrzycki told 600 young Polish-Canadians preparing to return to their ancestral homeland for World Youth Day this summer.
