Pope remembered on film

TORONTO - The first Canadian theater screening of the film “Karol: The Pope, The Man” will be shown at the Ontario Place IMAX Cinesphere in English and Polish on Mar . 31 and in Italian Apr. 1. It is being sponsored by Catholic Youth Studio-KSM Inc.
The film is a chronicle of the life of Pope John Paul II. It is part two of a mini-series that aired on CBC last year.
“It not only educates it evangelizes,” said Fr. Marian Gil, OMI, director of Catholic Youth Studio. “It takes us to the core teachings of John Paul II.”
The movie, produced by Pietro Valsecchi and directed by Giacomo Battiato, gained popularity when it was shown in Mexico and Poland. It garnered two million viewers within the first few weeks in Poland.
The screenings will happen just a day or two prior to second anniversary of Pope John Paul II's death, April 2. He is still commemorated by many world wide.
“He still plays an important role in the lives of millions of people, he touched the lives of millions through his teachings,” said Gil, “He was a living saint among us.”
Piotr Adamczyk, the actor who played Pope John Paul II in the film, will attend both screenings on Mar. 31. The audience will have the opportunity to speak with him.
