Missions and Martyrs: Canada’s Martyrs’ Shrine at 100

A century ago, the Martyrs’ Shrine was opened to venerate a foundational occasion in Canadian and Catholic life. On that day in 1926, The Catholic Register was there to record journalistically what is now celebrated as living history that attracts a hundred thousand visitors each year.

We were there then. We are here now to help mark the anniversary with this special 56-page, full-colour souvenir magazine, which traces the Shrine’s origins to the mission and martyrdom of St. Jean de Brébeuf and his companion Jesuits. It also brings that spirit to the present moment with never-before-seen art from Canada’s greatest Catholic iconographer, Michael D. O’Brien.
