School boards choose 2009 leaders

TORONTO - Most Ontario Catholic school boards have chosen their leaders to guide them into the next year, with one notable exception.
The Toronto Catholic District School Board, which has been under a provincial government-appointed supervisor since a controversy erupted over trustee spending last year, has postponed its board elections until January.

In the Toronto archdiocese, three of the other four boards have chosen their leadership team. Durham Catholic District School Board re-elected Jim McCafferty as chair. Janice Oldman was acclaimed as vice-chair. For the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, 35-year Mississauga, Ont., resident Mario Pascucci was chosen as chair and Anne Abbruscato was re-elected vice-chair.
And John Grisé will continue to serve as chair at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, with Theresa Pinder as vice-chair.
Meanwhile, the York Catholic District School Board has returned as chair Elizabeth Crowe, with Carol Cotton also renewed as board vice-chair.
At other boards within the Greater Toronto Area, the Halton board re-elected 28-year veteran Oakville trustee Alice Anne LeMay board chair and eight-year veteran Burlington trustee Bob Van de Vrande will serve as vice-chair.
Long-time trustee Pat Daly was recently re-elected chair of the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic Schools and Sergio Manchia was elected vice-chair.
Christine Dunn was elected board chair of the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board and David Bernier as vice-chair in early December.
