Ontario students recognized for leadership

TORONTO - A total of 181 students from Ontario Catholic schools were honoured at the 25th annual Father Patrick Fogarty Awards dinner Oct. 25.
These students received the Catholic Student Award, which recognizes recipients for best exemplifying the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations of being a discerning believer, an effective communicator, a reflective, creative and holistic thinker, a self-directed, responsible life-long learner, a collaborative contributor, a caring family member and a responsible citizen.
In addition, six schools received The Michael Carty Award — a grant of up to $2,000 meant to support initiatives that improve, develop and enhance aspects of Catholic education in regards to leadership and social action.
Kevin Kobus, a former Toronto Catholic board director of education, received the Medal of Honour for this year, but was unable to attend the event, held at the Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel. He did however, provide a recording of his acceptance speech to be shown to the audience.
