Course engages students in charity work

A Catholic high school leadership and peer support course is being offered this August and will earn participating students a high school credit.The course, which will be taught by Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Secondary School teacher Steve DeQuintal, will take place at St. Sebastian’s Church, 20 Pauline Ave.
The course prepares and motivates students to become leaders in their schools and communities while learning about social diversity through hands-on service to local charities, including Canadian Food for Children, Daily Bread Food Bank, Dufferin Park, The Good Shepherd Refuge, Scott Mission and Street Patrol.
The students will develop skills in communication, interpersonal relations, coaching, leadership, teamwork and conflict management.
The course runs from Aug. 3-27, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It supplies a credit for the GPP301-01 elective course code, once completed.
