Markham school recognizes sainthood of Br. André

MARKHAM, Ont. - Brother André High School in Markham has officially added “St.” to its name. It’s the first school in the archdiocese of Toronto to officially change its name by adding the “St.” designation since the Quebec-born saint’s Oct. 17 canonization.
The school is working with the board to change its name on the school building as well as developing a new school logo, said interim principal Peter Bahen.
About 1,600 students attend St. Brother André High School. The school has been known as Brother André High School for 25 years.
About 20 students and staff from the school flew to Rome to witness the canonization ceremony at St. Peter’s Square, joining about 5,000 Canadians in attendance.
