We need school choice

When I covered the following story on television, I advised viewers to remove their children from the room. Not suitable, and all that. The same, I suppose, applies even in print. The paradoxical challenge being that the subject can only be truly appreciated if truly reported.

The bones of the body are this. For seven months in the Delta Alternative School in Toronto, 12- and 13-year-old children sat in a classroom where a large poster on the wall showed two men engaging in oral sex. It was graphic and deeply pornographic. The school is located in a larger setting, where children as young as five attend.

The situation was only reported when a concerned parent made a video recording and sent it to Sun News, where I host a show. This person remains anonymous, for the same reason he didn’t go directly to the school: fear of repercussions and reprisals. What a state of affairs we have achieved when a parent is frightened of complaining about an explicit, profoundly inappropriate poster in a publicly funded school.
