The government has long worked with Canadian development organizations that have religious affiliations and roots. These organizations, and the people who work and volunteer for them, share a commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable in the developing world. Shared values of generosity and compassion is the foundation for our collaborations.

People of faith are deeply motivated and involved in works of charity and helping those in need at home and abroad. Whether they be Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus or Sikhs, they work in some of the most dangerous and destitute spots in the world, selflessly serving mankind. They represent vital pillars of our society and are tremendous resources and valuable partners in making the world a better place.

While freedom of religion is a core value of our country, we are mindful of maintaining a pluralistic model in the delivery of development work rather than promoting any particular faith. In delivering effective development investments and offering humanitarian assistance, the focus is to target finite public funds to specific projects that will achieve concrete results.
