Secular media loves taking shots at the Church

It never fails to amaze me how much the secular media loves to take shots at the Church. Pope Francis offering indulgences — or opportunity for forgiveness of sins — to those following him on Twitter during World Youth Day festivities in Rio de Janeiro is the latest hit and gigglefest for the media.

It started with ABC News and other international media on July 17 and then Canada’s national newspaper, the Globe and Mail, picked up on it July 20 in Tabatha Southey’s regular column entitled “Tart.”

“The Church currently has a Facebook page, and a news portal — any latter-day Martin Luthers need only hack its web site to deliver a message. The Church also plans to use Pinterest, which at first made me think it had agreed to start ordaining bunny rabbits or whimsically icing the communion wafer. But really this is a natural step for a faith that has always embraced pageantry,” she writes...
