Never have so many words been used to explain so few after Pope Francis said “Who am I to judge?” when asked about homosexuals.

Five tiny words that exploded into one of the biggest international news stories of the year while he flew home July 28 with reporters from his triumphant week-long visit to Brazil for World Youth Day.

It was remarkable how quickly the various interested parties lined up to interpret what the Holy Father actually meant by that statement. It was even more remarkable what these “interpreters” missed...
