Artistic Glass Inc. is the story of Joseph Aigner

TORONTO - With the strength of a tradition of beauty and artistry in a centuriesold craft, Artistic Glass Inc. proffers its wares of stained glass.

Understanding individual designs for both traditional and contemporary settings, the craftspeople of Artistic Glass work with pride, always conscious that what they create will bring joy and inspiration to those who see the results.

The history of Artistic Glass is essentially the story of Joseph Aigner and his dedication to his trade. Acquiring the skills in early childhood in his native Germany, he learned the art of stained glass from his father, a master craftsman, who learned it from his father. After studying at the Luiesen School of Art and the Maische Academy of Art, both in Munich, he began designing, constructing and restoring stained glass windows throughout Europe.

Coming to Canada in 1968, he founded Artistic Glass the next year, specializing in individual custom commissions. It is now located on Dundas Street West in an 18,000-square-foot facility large enough to handle the biggest requests but with the intimacy and warmth of a smaller work force.

The particular distinctions of each commission is carefully evaluated, including the architecture as well as sunlight, window exposure, seating and the budget.

One example of where Artistic Glass worked is at Queen of Peace Church in Norval, Ont. The beauty of this countryside church should be experienced first-hand, with one’s heart and mind open to the importance of these holy events shown in the windows.

It is highlighted by a semi-circle behind the altar with seven windows conveying historic scenes from the lifetime of Jesus, from the Annunciation of the Lord through the scene of Pentecost.
