Typhoon Haiyan Donations

Money sent directly to friends, churches or agencies in the Philippines are not eligible for Ottawa’s matching grant. To double your donation you must:

- donate only money;

- give to a registered charity, such as the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace or ShareLife;

- specify that the money is for Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts;

- make the donation between Nov. 9 and Dec. 9.

Donations must be less than $100,000 per individual.

A similar matching fund following Haiti’s 2010 earthquake raised $128.8 million eligible for government matching, a total of $257.6 million. Development and Peace raised $20 million for Haiti relief.

There are three ways to give to Development and Peace, which will then directly transfer the money to Caritas Philippines-NASSA through the world-wide Caritas network:

- call 1-888-664-3387;

- go to www.devp.org;

- mail cheques to Development and Peace, 1425 René-Levesque Blvd. W., 3rd Floor, Montreal Que., H3G 1T7. Write “Philippines Typhoon” in the for line of your cheques.

You can also donate to Caritas Philippines-NASSA through the archdiocese of Toronto. Cheques can be dropped off at any Toronto parish. Write in the “Payable to” line, “name of parish, Philippines Typhoon Haiyan, Humanitarian Relief." The archdiocese is also accepting online donations at www.archtoronto.org or by phone at 416-934-3411.
