Jesus embodies true sense of selflessness

Selflessness. That most admirable quality seems to be fighting extinction in our me-first society.

The all-about-me attitude is on display everywhere — at the supermarket where people step in line in front of others and mumble obscenities at the cashier when the line moves too slow, on the highways where drivers cut others off and flash obscene gestures at vehicles they think have wronged them in some way, and in our homes, schools and churches, where people are more interested in what they can get out of something than what they give back.

Instances of selflessness are conspicuous and special.

The remembrance events of November evoke prime and lasting examples of selflessness. Our soldiers, mostly young, impressionable, courageous and sometimes naive, have time and again left home to fight an unknown enemy on battlefields across the oceans.
