Front line euthanasia ethics

At this month’s Supreme Court hearing on assisted suicide, much time was spent arguing whether Canadians have a right to be killed. Few moments were spent considering those who would have to do the killing. 

The lone voices raised exclusively in that regard were from the Catholic Civil Rights League, the Faith and Freedom Alliance and the Protection of Conscience Project. 

In their joint factum and oral arguments, they argued that any change in law must include robust protections for those who might otherwise be forced to kill. It is a measure of the madness pending upon us that such a demand must even be made before the highest court in the country.
