Open season on Catholic education

In his new book The Global War on Christians, John L. Allen Jr. follows in the path of Phillip Jenkins’ book, The New Anti-Catholicism, in highlighting growing anti-Catholicism in our society.

Quoting Open Doors, an agency that monitors Christian persecution, Allen writes that more than 100 million Christians worldwide face interrogation, arrest, torture and even death because of their religious convictions. He then notes that Protestant scholar Todd Johnson, an expert in religious demography, has pegged the number of Christians killed annually around the world from the year 2000 to 2010 at 100,000. That works out to 11 Christians killed every hour. Although some would question those numbers as being too high, clearly there is no denying that not only is Christian persecution occurring, but it is receiving little attention in the world’s media.
