OTTAWA – Pope Francis has appointed Msgr. Alain Faubert, C.S.S., as the new auxiliary bishop of Montreal

Bishop-elect Faubert will join Bishop Thomas Dowd as auxiliary bishop to Archbishop Christian Lepine for the Archdiocese of Montreal.

The 51-year-old Faubert was ordained a priest on June 9, 1995 for the Montreal archdiocese, serving as an assistant pastor for five years before undertaking further studies in theology. He also taught at the Institut de formation théologique de Montréal, as well as serving as Assistant to the Director of the Diocesan Office for Faith Education.

Flaubert was appointed episcopal vicar of the eastern region of the archdiocese in 2011, the year he was also named a monsignor. 

Since 2012, Faubert has been pastor at Saint-Germain parish in Outremont.

The Archdiocese of Montreal has 196 parishes and missions with a Catholic population of 1,494,132. It is served by 394 diocesan priests, 562 religious order priests, 78 permanent deacons, 3,000 religious sisters, 230 religious brothers and 121 lay pastoral workers.
