Bishop Pazak appointed to Phoenix eparchy

WASHINGTON – Pope Francis has appointed Bishop John S. Pazak of the Byzantine Eparchy of Sts. Cyril and Methodius of Toronto as bishop of the Holy Protection of Mary Eparchy of Phoenix. The Pope accepted the resignation of Bishop Gerald Dino, 76, of the Phoenix eparchy, where he had served eight years.

The Pope also accepted the resignation of two Eastern bishops whose dioceses officially remain vacant until bishops are appointed.

He accepted the resignation of Bishop Sarhad Y. Jammo, 75, of the Eparchy of St. Peter the Apostle of San Diego. Jammo had served as bishop there since 2002. The Pope appointed Chaldean Bishop Shlemon Warduni, auxiliary bishop of Baghdad, as the apostolic administrator until a bishop is named.

The Pope accepted the resignation of Bishop John M. Kudrick, 68, who had served since 2002 as head of the Byzantine Eparchy of Parma, Ohio, and appointed Archbishop William C. Skurla of the Byzantine Archeparchy of Pittsburgh as apostolic administrator.

The appointments were announced May 7 in Washington by Msgr. Walter Erbi, charge d'affaires of the Vatican nunciature in Washington.
