Healing and peace
February 8, 2024
Today we are faced with unbelievable violence in the Holy Land. We who follow the nonviolent Jesus can feel only deep pain, and an urgent call to bring an end to the violence both of Hamas and the Israeli government.
The Jan. 18 editorial in The Catholic Register, “On the side of real justice,” was an unjust judgment of Rev. Michael Blair, who spoke for the United Church of Canada Partners. Their support for the South African application to the International Court of Justice, which reflects the longing of multitudes around the world to end the violence destroying the people of Gaza, is, for me, an act of Active Nonviolence.
As Catholics, I pray that we will together follow the nonviolent Jesus in calling out for an end to all destructive violence and war, and pray for healing and peace for all who inhabit the Holy Land.
