Catholic Women’s League of Canada day of action aims to spread hope

The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, along with 1,300 parishes nationwide, will be celebrating its first Day of Peace and Hope on April 26.
The day of reflection and action is expected to draw about 98,000 participants.
“We are a longstanding organization, and we want to show people that we are contemporary in our work for peace,” said Betty Anne Brown, CWL chair of communications.

“Throughout this day, we hope that in every parish something special will happen, to help us be mindful of peace and hope.”
Activities for the Day of Peace and Hope range from ecumenical prayer services and rosary processions to personal ministry initiatives like visiting shut-ins. The CWL has developed peace and hope-themed activity kits to be used throughout the day. These kits contain projects ranging from small assignments to big programs, encouraging the Catholic values the League represents, as well as a particular focus on social justice.
The activities kit, produced for each parish council, focuses on projects that cover the realms of community life, Christian family life, organization, spiritual development, legislation, resolutions, communications, education and health.
“We savour the challenges of our faith, we enjoy having fun together and we relish the fulfilment that comes from being of service to the people of God,” said Brown
After this event, the CWL will be gearing up for its annual national convention in August in St. John’s, Nfld.
