TORONTO - While many Catholics continue to struggle with the uncertainty of job security and financial stability, ShareLife continues to see parishioners in the archdiocese generously giving to its campaign this year.

Arthur Peters, executive director for ShareLife, is hopeful of reaching his team’s parish fundraising campaign goal of $12 million, although donations were short of the goal at The Catholic Register’s publication deadline. Peters reported a total of $9.7 million raised after the final campaign weekend June 6-7.

“Parishes are still receiving funds at this point and we are prayerfully optimistic that we’ll reach our goal,” said Peters. “A pastor recently told me the economic situation is hurting but that people are still concerned about others and are reaching out to contribute.”

ShareLife raises money every year for 33 agencies in the archdiocese of Toronto that cater to a spectrum of people including the elderly, people with special needs, single and teen parents, immigrants and refugees, seminarians, children, youth and families.

The parish campaign began in March and has included three separate parish appeal weekends across the diocese. Other donations were made through the ShareLife web site at www.sharelife.org. Donations can still be made through the parishes and online until July 31.
